Adobe Illustrator Essentials for Character Design is a great little course provided by 2D Animation 101. It consists of 40 short lectures, totaling around 2 hours of material and is covering the following points:
- Essential Tools and Options
- Drawing Tools
- Painting Tools
- Tracing a Character Tutorial
Even though is classified as a beginner level, is recommended to have some basic Illustrator knowledge before getting in to it. Otherwise you risk concentrating more on how the program works than how to design your character.
To access this course you have to make an account on their page. The process was a bit confusing as they also have paying classes and thought they are going to ask for credit card details (which we don’t like to store or provide on any website, unless we buy something), but were surprised how easy it was to make the account. And, no, they did not ask for any CC :).
Even though this course is available on Udemy.com, we would recommend to enroll on 2D Animation 101’s page (www.2danimation101.com). The reasons are quite personal, first you are supporting them directly. Secondly, they provide other FREE courses about animation as well and, unlike Udemy, you do not have to search between the multitude of other classes, you get them all neatly in the same place.
The videos are short, engaging and the instructor is speaking very clearly. They also instruct on how to download the programs used in the course and how to set up the workplace for easier access.
About the other courses, we will comment on them in the future, for now, take a look at Adobe Illustrator Essentials for Character Design and make your immagination come to life 🙂
